Maternity photos are the perfect images for your baby’s photo album. In addition to your individual portrait, you may want to include images of you with your partner and your children. The best time for a maternity photo session is between 32 – 36 weeks of pregnancy. Most mothers-to-be are looking for semi-clothed poses when in the studio. Men’s dress shirts are a good wardrobe choice, revealing only what you want to and silk nighties as well. Bandos with matching bottoms are always recommended to bring. Solid colours and pastel tones are best. You can dress both casual and dressy as you will have time to change during your session. Try not to wear anything baggy as you will want to show off that beautiful belly. You are more than welcome to bring props like baby shoes, gender coloured balloons, or anything that you may want to include in a photo or 2 . Outdoor maternity sessions are a great alternative for a fun and natural Maternity session. If you are involving your partner and children in your maternity session , I often recommend doing an outdoor shoot.
Before the session
I always recommend booking your newborn session as soon as possible as spaces are limited and fill up quickly. The best time to schedule your newborn photo session in when you are pregnant. Newborns are best photographed when they are 5-10 days old. We will schedule a tentative session based on your expected due date. I ask that you put me on your call list from the hospital when the baby is born. PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH IN THE FIRST 2 DAYS OF LIFE. Or better yet assign that job to the new Daddy or your best bud!
Sessions are done in my studio. All props and backdrops are provided however please feel free to bring any special items that you may want to include ( hats, blankies, teddies).. I do ask that you bring a soother and a snuggle blanket along to help keep them calm in between poses.
During the session
Just before the session, baby should be well fed. Expect the session to last 3-4 hours, so that we have plenty of time for baby to get relaxed and happy. This allows for plenty of time for cuddling, feeding and diaper changes. While on this subject ,if you are using a pump or not breast feeding please bring extra extra bottles as you will find your baby will eat much more than usual from all the hard work. I prefer to capture babies in their natural state- sans clothing. Most likely this will lead to accidents happening on the blankets and myself as well. I am totally used to this and it is so worth it to capture your little one! Since babies are usually photographed naked, we need the studio WARM! Prepare for my studio to make you sweat. If we are not sweating , it probably is not warm enough for your baby.
Most of the session is focused on the baby, but I usually take a few with the parents as well. If you plan to be in any photos, please bring the clothing you wish to be captured in to be changed into ( you might get messy ). Please wear simple, solid colored clothes. If the baby is really wide awake and does not want to sleep, I will swaddle the baby to get some photos, shoot close ups and details such as hands and feet and I may also use the parents as a prop, holding the baby over the shoulder, in your arms, etc. By having Mom or Dad hold the baby for a few images, and fussy baby almost always settles down. I am happy to get a few photos with siblings as well.
During the session, I will be handling the baby and doing the posing . For the most part, the parents can sit back and relax however I do ask for one parent to always be by the baby making sure they are safe and comfortable.
Thank you so much for allowing me to photograph your new bundle of joy. I hope you will enjoy these precious moments forever more.Family Sessions
Your family session will be held on location using natural light. We will find a beautiful outdoor location for your photos, and your suggestions are more than welcome! I have several locations that I can suggest as well.
What to wear?
There are really no rules here, most importantly you want to reflect your personal style and be comfortable. Try to avoid clashing patterns and colors. I suggest picking a few basic colors and try to have everyone base their clothes around those colors. If possible, please try to stay away from all white tops or bottoms and heavy patterned tops. . Hats and scarves can add a fun pop of color, and can easily be switched out!Disclaimer
* Please make sure you arrive on time for your session as many days I am booked back to back.
* My sessions are non refundable and a $50 rescheduling fee will be charged with out 48 hours notice.
Thank you for understanding.
